Product Description: Stinging Nettles (Urtica dioica) are a 'superfood' and 'powerhouse' for neocaridina shrimp, snails and crayfish. Stinging nettle leaves are quite palatable for shrimp, easily shredded and consumed. The benefits of nettles for shrimp are widely known, providing many important amino acids, Vitamins (A, and C), and Minerals (Calcium, Folate) which improve the health and breeding success of your shrimp colonies. This bag and its contents are biodegradable! Did you know our product packaging is made from renewable and sustainable sugarcane? So just like the botanicals inside, it will compost when returned to nature.

Not for Human Consumption. Only for aquarium use.

Quantities: 32c dehydrated Nettle Leaves. Sizes range. This is a natural product, variation between leaves and botanicals is expected.

Commonly Asked Questions:

1) Will Botanicals Lower The pH Of My Water?

It entirely depends on your water's chemistry. Soft water will allow the botanicals to lower your pH more than if you have medium or hard water. At Betta Botanicals HQ our tap water is Very Hard, ( 350+ppm) and we do not notice a change in water pH unless using Alder Cones or Macaranga Leaves.

2) What Are The Fluffy White Growth On My Botanicals?

White growths are the colonization of biofilms and fungi. We call this the 'goo phase' and it is totally natural. Botanicals are fuel for the ecosystem and the populations of bacteria and fungi will naturally rise and fall.

3) I Don't Keep Bettas. Will These Botanicals Be Okay For My Critters?

100% yes. Our botanicals are for aquariums, terrariums, vivariums, and all natural enclosures wishing to recreate a more natural environment.

4) I Have Goldfish and Axolotls, What Botanicals Should I Avoid?

We DO NOT recommend using botanicals that these fish can ingest. Botanicals like casuarina cones, small alder cones, and live oak are not suited for these animals. Large aquarium leaves like Indian almond, loquat, and jackfruit leaf litter are preferred.

5) When Should I Replace My Aquarium Leaves?

We recommend letting aquarium leaves and seed pods entirely break down into beneficial detritus. You can absolutely remove them after they don’t release tannins anymore, you just won't get all potential benefits of leaving them in the ecosystem.

    Shrimp favorites!

My shrimp go crazy for these! And it was nice that the 3 orders were packed in one bag to save on packaging! <3

Shrimp like them, snails LOVE them.

Got these to add to my shrimp and snail tank assuming my shrimp would be the primary takers. They definitely joined in, but it was my snails who devoured the leaf within 2 days. I have ramshorn, sulawesi, and nerite snails, and all three were attracted to the nettle. And it's high in calcium! Glad I got a sizable bag.

Atleast my shrimp do! Even saw my otos nibbling a little on the leaves as well. Highly recommend!

    Shrimp favorite!

These nettles are my Amano Shrimp’s favorite food. They rush to eat these the minute they’re dropped into the tank. Usually I weight them down under a stick but if a piece floats to the surface they will hang out eating it from there.

All the pieces are in tact and a good size. I have not placed them in the tanks yet for the shrimp so not sure how they will like them, but I am certain they will enjoy them

    Great price, great product!!

These disappear in my aquarium & I noticed my amano took on unique green markings after eating a few. My shrimp are too shy to eat them during the day, but I’ll go to bed and when I wake up, the leaves have been munched away!! Excited to try them in a shrimp-only tank!!
